Tattoo removal in Bangkok

Tattoos are removed by laser in Bangkok at hospitals and clinics, over a series of sessions weeks apart, as the ink fades a little each time.

Providers in Bangkok price each session by the size of the tattoo, by the square centimetre or inch, or by body area, and sell courses. Ask for the total for the number of sessions you will need.

About tattoo removal

Laser tattoo removal fires short pulses of light at the ink in the skin. The ink breaks into fine particles, which the body then clears, so the tattoo fades over a series of sessions.

Bangkok providers use picosecond lasers such as PicoWay, and one hospital also uses older Q-switched lasers at lower prices. Different wavelengths target different colours: one clinic uses 1064 nm for black and blue ink and 532 nm for red.

Techniques and approaches

The same procedure name covers different operations. These are the approaches a clinic will offer, and what separates them.

Picosecond laser

Pulses lasting trillionths of a second. The hospital prices PicoWay higher than its Q-switched lasers.

Q-switched laser

Nd:YAG or ruby lasers with longer pulses. One hospital prices them at a little over half its PicoWay price for the same size.

Eyebrows, eyeliner and lips

Cosmetic tattoos are priced separately. One clinic warns that laser near the eyes can harm the retina.

The decisions you will make

These come up at consultation. Knowing them beforehand makes the conversation shorter and the plan clearer.

Size and colour

Price follows the size of the tattoo. One clinic says black is easiest to remove and red the hardest.

How many sessions

Clinics advise at least three, and one says eight to ten on average, four to eight weeks apart. Ask for a course price.

Who should wait

One clinic advises against it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with a tendency to keloid scars, on blood-thinning medicine, or with an open wound or infection in the area.

About 1 day

What the trip involves

Clinics vary, and your clinician’s plan overrides anything on this page. The shape is consistent.

  1. 1Before you fly

Sessions are four weeks to two months apart, so a full course takes several trips. One clinic says a new tattoo must be at least four weeks old.

  2. 2The week before

Clinics advise no alcohol, aspirin or other blood-thinning medicine, fish oil or vitamin E; one says for at least a week.

  3. 3The session

Numbing cream first, then the laser. One clinic covers the area with a plaster afterwards.

  4. 4The first days

Keep it dry for 24 hours to two days. One clinic says redness and small scabs settle in about five to seven days.

  5. 5Healing

One clinic says the skin is back to normal in one to two weeks. Do not pick the scabs or pop blisters.

  6. 6Between sessions

Avoid strong sun and use sunscreen on the area.

Ask these before you pay a deposit

Formatted as a numbered list, ready to email a clinic.
  1. Who is treating me, and what are their qualifications?

A clinic name is not a clinician. Ask for the individual, their registration, and how often they do this procedure.

  2. What is included in the price, and what is not?

Facility fees, anaesthesia, materials, medication, follow-up appointments and take-home items are often quoted separately.

  3. Is the deposit refundable, and under what conditions?

Including if the clinic reschedules, or if the in-person assessment changes the plan.

  4. What if it needs correcting?

Ask for the policy in writing: who pays, within what window, and whether it covers a return trip.

  5. Who do I contact after I go home, and in what language?

A name, a channel, and an expected response time. Aftercare that ends at the airport is not aftercare.

Questions

Is the price on this page a quote?

No. It is a starting price for one session. The total depends on the size and the number of sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

Clinics advise at least three, and one says eight to ten on average, four to eight weeks apart.

Will it scar?

One clinic says poor technique can cause scars, patchy marks or uneven skin colour, and another that the back and chest scar more easily.

Can eyebrow tattoos be removed?

Yes. Providers price both eyebrows as one item. One clinic warns that laser close to the eyes needs extra care.

Can I do it on a short trip to Bangkok?
