Gum contouring in Bangkok

Gum contouring is done in Bangkok by dental clinics, in one visit under local anaesthetic, to trim gum that covers too much of the teeth.

Clinics in Bangkok price it per tooth, and charge more when the bone is reshaped as well. Some price a set of four to six teeth for a gummy smile.

About gum contouring

Gum contouring trims gum that covers too much of the teeth, so the teeth show longer and the gum line is even. It is done under local anaesthetic, by laser or scalpel, and is used for a gummy smile or to prepare a tooth for a crown.

Where the bone sits close to the edge of the tooth, the bone is reshaped as well, so the gum does not grow back over the tooth. This costs more per tooth.

Techniques and approaches

The same procedure name covers different operations. These are the approaches a clinic will offer, and what separates them.

Laser

Stops the bleeding as it cuts, and usually needs no stitches.

Scalpel

Suits larger amounts of gum, or work on the bone at the same time.

Gum and bone (crown lengthening)

The gum is opened and the bone reshaped, then the gum is set at its new level.

The decisions you will make

These come up at consultation. Knowing them beforehand makes the conversation shorter and the plan clearer.

The cause of the gummy smile

Gum covering the teeth can be trimmed. A high lip or the jaw needs other treatment. Ask the dentist which it is.

Number of teeth

Clinics price per tooth, and some price a set of four to six teeth together.

Treatment first

Scaling or treating inflamed gums may come first, at extra cost.

About 1 day

What the trip involves

Clinics vary, and your clinician’s plan overrides anything on this page. The shape is consistent.

  1. 1Before you fly

Send photos of your smile. A dentist still needs to examine you to find the cause.

  2. 2Examination

The dentist checks whether the gum, the lip or the jaw causes the gummy smile, and how many teeth to treat.

  3. 3The treatment

Local anaesthetic, then about one to two hours in all, depending on the number of teeth.

  4. 4The first days

Soft food that is not too hot, chew on the other side, brush gently, and no smoking or alcohol.

  5. 5Stitches

If stitches were used, there is a visit to check the wound and remove them.

  6. 6Back home

One clinic says healing takes about two to four weeks.

Ask these before you pay a deposit

Formatted as a numbered list, ready to email a clinic.
  1. Who is treating me, and what are their qualifications?

A clinic name is not a clinician. Ask for the individual, their registration, and how often they do this procedure.

  2. What is included in the price, and what is not?

Facility fees, anaesthesia, materials, medication, follow-up appointments and take-home items are often quoted separately.

  3. Is the deposit refundable, and under what conditions?

Including if the clinic reschedules, or if the in-person assessment changes the plan.

  4. What if it needs correcting?

Ask for the policy in writing: who pays, within what window, and whether it covers a return trip.

  5. Who do I contact after I go home, and in what language?

A name, a channel, and an expected response time. Aftercare that ends at the airport is not aftercare.

Questions

Is the price on this page a quote?

No. It is a starting price per tooth. The dentist can only quote after an examination.

Will it fix every gummy smile?

No. It helps when gum covers too much of the teeth. A high lip or the jaw needs other treatment.

Laser or scalpel?

A laser stops bleeding as it cuts and usually needs no stitches. A scalpel suits larger amounts of gum or work on the bone.

Can the gum grow back?

The gum level can change a little as it heals. Reshaping the bone, where needed, helps it stay.
