Who can have IVF in Thailand
Thai law (the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2015) allows embryos to be created only to treat the infertility of a legally married husband and wife. IVF, ICSI and IUI are therefore for legally married couples. The law sets no nationality rule for these treatments, so a married couple from abroad can be treated.
Other parts of treatment do carry nationality rules:
- Donated eggs or embryos go only to a married couple of the donor's nationality, and donation may not be paid for or advertised.
- Surrogacy is limited to couples where both partners are Thai, or where one partner is Thai and the couple have been married for at least three years. Commercial surrogacy is a crime.
Ask the clinic, in writing, how these rules apply to you before you pay a deposit.
What a cycle costs in Bangkok
On 1 November 2026 we read the IVF and ICSI packages that Bangkok fertility centres publish on their own websites. These are the ranges, before any repeat cycles:
| What you are buying | Published prices |
|---|---|
| One IVF or ICSI cycle with a transfer, no genetic testing | 155,000 to 335,000 baht at five centres. One hospital sells the cycle in parts that add up to about 432,000 baht. |
| One cycle with PGT-A genetic testing of the embryos | 299,999 to 498,000 baht at four centres, depending mainly on how many embryos are tested. |
| A frozen embryo transfer on its own | 83,000 to 111,000 baht, where it is priced separately. |
| PGT-A as an add-on | At one centre, 39,900 baht for the first embryo and 15,900 baht for each further embryo. |
A low headline price usually means less is included, or that the package is limited to certain patients. Read the conditions before you compare.
What changes the price
| What varies | In the published packages |
|---|---|
| Medication | Stimulation drugs are included up to a set dose, from 2,400 to 4,500 units. More is charged on top. One package includes unlimited standard drugs. |
| What the cycle covers | Some packages run from stimulation to one transfer. Others stop at egg collection, or leave out the transfer, freezing or lining preparation. |
| Fresh or frozen transfer | A fresh transfer happens in the same cycle. Freezing all embryos and transferring later adds a frozen transfer to the bill. |
| Genetic testing | PGT-A packages cover from 2 to 8 embryos. Testing more embryos costs more. |
| Who the price is for | Three centres limit their packages to Thai nationals, residents of Thailand, or couples where one partner is Thai. One limits its package to patients flying in. |
| Age and test results | The cheapest packages at one centre require the woman to be 35 or younger (37 for the next tier), with set hormone levels and a normal semen test. |
| Dates | Most are promotions with an end date in late 2026 or early 2027. |
Ask for an itemised quote: the medication dose included, each stage from stimulation to transfer, freezing and storage, genetic testing per embryo, VAT and doctor's fees.
PGT-A: when it is allowed
Thai rules restrict embryo testing. Without a known genetic condition in the family, Medical Council announcement 95(5)/2558 allows PGT only in these cases:
- a previous pregnancy with a serious abnormality;
- two or more miscarriages before 12 weeks, or a test showing an earlier miscarriage had a genetic cause;
- two ART cycles in a row without a pregnancy;
- a wife aged 35 or over with a medical indication that the embryos may be at genetic risk;
- matching tissue for a sick child.
Embryo testing that could be taken as choosing a baby's sex is prohibited. A clinic offering "family balancing" is offering what the law bans.
How long to stay
A cycle runs to your body's timetable. Stimulation takes around two weeks of injections, with scans to time egg collection. With a fresh transfer a few days later, plan for about three weeks in Bangkok.
If all embryos are frozen, you can split it into two trips: one for stimulation and collection, and a shorter one for the frozen transfer. Some clinics accept early scans done at home. Ask which ones before you book.
Your embryos stay in Thailand
Thai law bans anyone from buying, selling, importing or exporting eggs, sperm or embryos. Embryos created in Thailand cannot be shipped abroad, so plan any further transfers at a Thai clinic.
Moving stored embryos between Thai clinics is allowed. If a clinic stops offering storage, Medical Council rules require it to move what it holds to another registered facility within a year.
Check the clinic is accredited
Assisted reproduction may be provided only by licensed doctors, at facilities that meet the Department of Health Service Support's standards. The department publishes a monthly list of accredited facilities. The July 2026 list names 125. Check the clinic you are considering against the latest list; it is in Thai and uses each facility's registered name.
What to ask before you pay
- We are legally married. What documents do you need to see?
- What exactly does the package include, from stimulation to transfer?
- How much medication is included, and what does extra cost?
- Is this price for my nationality and residency, and until what date?
- If you recommend PGT-A, which of the permitted reasons applies to us?
- What does a frozen transfer cost, and what does embryo storage cost each year?
- Which scans can be done at home, so the trip is shorter?
