Egg freezing in Bangkok

Egg freezing is provided in Bangkok by fertility centres accredited by the Department of Health Service Support. Thai law (the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2015) limits IVF, ICSI and IUI to legally married couples; it sets no nationality rule for these. Nobody may buy, sell, import or export eggs, sperm or embryos.

Fertility treatment is a cycle rather than an appointment. The timing is set by your body, not by your travel dates, which makes it the hardest kind of treatment to plan a trip around.

About egg freezing

Egg freezing stimulates the ovaries, retrieves mature eggs, and preserves them by vitrification — a rapid freezing method — for use in a future IVF cycle.

The stimulation and retrieval are identical to the first half of an IVF cycle. What differs is that nothing is fertilised or transferred, so the trip ends at retrieval.

Techniques and approaches

The same procedure name covers different operations. These are the approaches a clinic will offer, and what separates them.

Vitrification

Rapid freezing that avoids ice crystal formation. The current standard, and substantially better than older slow-freezing methods.

Single stimulation cycle

One round of stimulation and one retrieval.

Multiple cycles

More than one round to bank a larger number of eggs, often planned from the outset depending on age and response.

Embryo freezing instead

Where there is a partner or donor sperm, fertilising and freezing embryos is an alternative with different considerations.

The decisions you will make

These come up at consultation. Knowing them beforehand makes the conversation shorter and the plan clearer.

How many eggs to aim for

The target depends on your age and your reasons. Ask the clinic to explain the number it is recommending.

Storage cost and term

An annual fee beyond the initial package. Get the figure and the term in writing.

Whether you qualify

Medical Council rule 95(9)/2558 allows egg freezing for later fertilisation with a legal husband's sperm, or before treatment that may harm the ovaries, such as chemotherapy. Ask the clinic how it applies the rule to you before you start.

Eggs stay in Thailand

Thai law bans exporting eggs, sperm or embryos. Plan on using stored eggs at a Thai clinic; transfers between Thai clinics are allowed.

About 14 days

What the trip involves

Clinics vary, and your clinician’s plan overrides anything on this page. The shape is consistent.

  1. 1Before you travel

Tests and records shared with the clinic, and a video consultation. Ask about eligibility rules early.

  2. 2Monitoring

Some clinics accept monitoring done at home before you fly. Confirm what they will accept.

  3. 3In country

The active phase of the cycle. Dates move with your body, so keep travel flexible.

  4. 4Procedure

Day-case, with a short recovery. You will need someone with you if sedation is used.

  5. 5After

Follow-up and results. Plan for around 14 days in country, and expect it to move.

  6. 6Storage and next steps

Agree in writing what is stored, for how long, at what annual cost, and how it is released.

Ask these before you pay a deposit

Formatted as a numbered list, ready to email a clinic.
  1. Who is treating me, and what are their qualifications?

A clinic name is not a clinician. Ask for the individual, their registration, and how often they do this procedure.

  2. What is included in the price, and what is not?

Facility fees, anaesthesia, materials, medication, follow-up appointments and take-home items are often quoted separately.

  3. Is the deposit refundable, and under what conditions?

Including if the clinic reschedules, or if the in-person assessment changes the plan.

  4. What if it needs correcting?

Ask for the policy in writing: who pays, within what window, and whether it covers a return trip.

  5. Who do I contact after I go home, and in what language?

A name, a channel, and an expected response time. Aftercare that ends at the airport is not aftercare.

Questions

Is the price on this page a quote?

No. It is a starting price for a cycle. Medication and add-ons commonly sit outside it.

Does the price include medication?

Often not. Ask for it as a separate line before comparing clinics.

How long am I in Bangkok?

Plan for around 14 days and keep it flexible. Cycle timing is not fixed in advance.

Can any of it be done at home?

Some clinics accept monitoring done by your own doctor before you fly. Ask early — it can shorten the trip considerably.

What happens to anything stored?
