Who may freeze eggs in Thailand
Egg freezing is governed by the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2015 and by rules the Medical Council of Thailand made under it. The rule on storing eggs (Medical Council announcement 95(9)/2558, clause 4) allows egg freezing in two situations:
- to fertilise the eggs later with the sperm of your legal husband;
- before treatment that may harm the ovaries, such as chemotherapy.
Using the eggs later is regulated too. Thai law allows embryos to be created only to treat the infertility of a legally married husband and wife. IVF, ICSI and IUI are limited to legally married couples. The law sets no nationality rule for these treatments, so a married couple from abroad can be treated.
Clinics decide how the rule applies to each patient. Ask the clinic, in writing, before you pay a deposit or book flights.
What a cycle involves
Egg freezing is the first half of an IVF cycle. You take hormone injections for around two weeks to stimulate the ovaries, with scans and blood tests to time the retrieval. The eggs are collected under sedation, and the mature ones are frozen by vitrification, a rapid freezing method.
Nothing is fertilised or transferred, so the trip ends at retrieval. Plan for around two weeks in Bangkok, and keep your dates flexible: the cycle runs to your body's timetable, not to a flight.
What it costs in Bangkok
On 1 November 2026 we read the egg-freezing packages published by five Bangkok fertility centres. Their published prices for one cycle ran from 174,900 to 264,500 baht. The figures are not comparable until you know what each one covers:
| What varies | In the published packages |
|---|---|
| Medication | Included up to a set dose of stimulation drugs in some packages, such as 3,000 units. More is charged on top. |
| Number of eggs | Some packages cover freezing up to a set number of eggs, such as 10. Others say unlimited. |
| Storage included | From one to three years, depending on the package. |
| Storage after that | From 1,300 baht per vial per year to 10,000 baht per year. |
| Who the price is for | Some packages are for Thai nationals and residents only. Others are only for patients flying in. |
| Age | One centre prices by age band, with a higher price from age 36. |
| Dates | Several are promotions with an end date. Check the price is still valid when you book. |
Ask for an itemised quote that shows the medication dose included, the number of eggs covered, the storage term and fee, VAT and doctor's fees. Compare those lines, not the headline price.
Storage, and why your eggs stay in Thailand
Thai law bans anyone from buying, selling, importing or exporting eggs, sperm or embryos. Eggs frozen in Thailand cannot be shipped to a clinic abroad. Plan to use them at a Thai clinic.
Moving stored eggs between Thai clinics is allowed, through a set form. If a clinic stops providing the service, Medical Council amendment No. 5 (2021) requires it to tell the Department of Health Service Support within 15 days and to move what it stores to another registered facility within a year.
Before you start, get in writing the storage term, the annual fee after the included period, how to renew, and how to ask for a transfer.
Check the clinic is accredited
Assisted reproduction may be provided only by licensed doctors, at facilities that meet the Department of Health Service Support's standards. The department publishes a monthly list of accredited facilities. The July 2026 list names 125, from public and private hospitals to clinics. Check the clinic you are considering against the latest list; it is in Thai and uses each facility's registered name.
We checked each Bangkok fertility centre in our directory against the July 2026 list. Where the name matches, the centre's profile says so.
What to ask before you pay
- How do you apply the Medical Council rule on egg freezing to my situation?
- What does the package include: medication dose, number of eggs, storage term, VAT, doctor's fees?
- What is the storage fee after the included period, and how do I renew?
- Is this price for my nationality and residency, and until what date?
- Which scans and tests can I do at home before I fly, and which must be done in Bangkok?
- If you stop offering storage, where would my eggs go?
