Who can have IUI in Thailand
IUI (intrauterine insemination) places prepared sperm directly in the uterus around ovulation. Thai law (the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act 2015) allows assisted reproduction only to treat the infertility of a legally married husband and wife, so IUI is for legally married couples. The law sets no nationality rule for it, so a married couple from abroad can be treated.
Expect to show your marriage certificate. Donated sperm is regulated too, and sperm may not be bought or sold. If you need donor sperm, ask the clinic in writing whether and how it can be used for you.
What IUI costs in Bangkok
On 2 November 2026 we read the IUI prices that Bangkok fertility centres publish on their own websites:
| What you are buying | Published prices |
|---|---|
| An IUI package for one cycle | 13,500 to 19,500 baht at two centres. |
| The insemination on its own | 20,000 baht at one hospital, covering sperm preparation, supplies and the doctor's fee for the insemination. Consultations, medication, blood tests and scans are charged on top. |
| Three cycles | 40,500 to 60,000 baht at these prices, before any medication, tests or scans that are extra. |
The lowest prices are not open to everyone. One centre's packages, at 13,500 and 19,500 baht, are only for Thai couples or couples where one partner is Thai. Three of the four prices are valid only until 31 December 2026.
What the price may leave out
A cycle has several parts, and a headline price may cover only some of them:
- consultations and the first fertility tests for both partners;
- medication to stimulate ovulation, and the trigger injection;
- ultrasound scans and blood tests to time ovulation;
- washing and preparing the sperm;
- the insemination itself;
- the pregnancy test about two weeks later.
Ask for an itemised quote that says which of these are included, how much medication is covered, and what each extra visit costs.
How long a cycle takes
A cycle follows your menstrual cycle. At one centre, medication to stimulate ovulation starts between day 1 and day 5 of your period. Scans then track the follicles until a trigger injection is given, and the insemination follows. The procedure itself takes minutes, needs no anaesthetic, and you can carry on as normal afterwards.
One centre gives two to three weeks for a cycle. The pregnancy blood test is about two weeks after the insemination. Ask whether early scans or the pregnancy test can be done at home, so you spend less time in Bangkok.
How many cycles, and when to move to IVF
IUI works best when the woman's fallopian tubes are open and the sperm count is normal or only mildly low. It is not suitable when both tubes are blocked or the sperm count is very low. One Bangkok centre suggests three to six cycles of IUI before moving to IVF or ICSI; another suggests up to six.
If you are planning several trips, compare the cost of three or more IUI cycles, with flights and stays, against one IVF cycle. Ask the doctor how your age and test results affect that choice.
Check the clinic is accredited
Assisted reproduction may be provided only by licensed doctors, at facilities that meet the Department of Health Service Support's standards. The department publishes a monthly list of accredited facilities. The July 2026 list names 125. Check the clinic you are considering against the latest list; it is in Thai and uses each facility's registered name.
What to ask before you pay
- We are legally married. What documents do you need to see?
- What exactly does the price include, from the first tests to the pregnancy test?
- How much medication is included, and what does extra cost?
- Is this price for my nationality and residency, and until what date?
- How many cycles do you suggest for us before IVF, and why?
- Which scans and tests can be done at home?
