What gynecomastia surgery costs in Bangkok
On 2 November 2026 we looked for the gynecomastia prices that Bangkok hospitals and clinics publish on their own websites. One hospital, which updated its page in August 2026, and one clinic, which updated its price list in September 2026, publish them. The clinic gives starting prices for a first operation, and its price can rise with the grade and the amount of tissue:
| What the surgeon does | Published prices |
|---|---|
| Removing the gland only, through a cut at the edge of the areola | 71,000 baht at the hospital, with one night. |
| Liposuction only, for fat | 87,000 baht (VASER) at the hospital, with one night; from 59,000 baht at the clinic, or 79,000 baht with skin removed. |
| Gland removal with liposuction | 96,000 baht (standard liposuction) or 106,000 baht (VASER) at the hospital, with one night; from 130,000 baht at the clinic, or from 160,000 baht with general anaesthesia. |
What the price covers
The hospital's price covers the surgeon, the anaesthesia, the night in hospital, tests before surgery and care afterwards; flights and a hotel are not included. The clinic says its price covers a free chest ultrasound and consultation, liposuction with gland removal, skin tightening where suitable, a lab check of the removed tissue in every case, the compression garment and follow-up until you have healed. Ask whether yours covers:
- general or local anaesthesia, and the anaesthetist;
- liposuction as well as gland removal;
- a lab check of the removed tissue;
- the compression garment;
- taking out the stitches and follow-up visits.
Gland, fat, or both
Both say the operation depends on what the tissue is. A firm disc under the nipple is gland, which exercise and weight loss do not remove; it is taken out through a cut at the lower edge of the areola. Soft, general enlargement is fat, which weight loss can reduce and liposuction can remove. Most men have both, and both say liposuction alone leaves the gland behind. The clinic checks with an ultrasound; the hospital decides by examination.
Where the chest is large and the skin hangs, skin may have to be removed and the nipple moved higher, which leaves a longer scar.
When surgery is not the answer
The hospital says gynecomastia during puberty usually settles on its own within six months to two years. Some medicines and substances can cause it, including some heart, blood pressure, reflux and hair loss drugs, and anabolic steroids; if one is the cause, changing it may solve the problem without surgery. Bring a list of everything you take, and never stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it.
Both advise seeing a doctor first about a hard or fixed lump, and the clinic also about fluid from the nipple, because male breast cancer, though rare, can also show as a lump.
How long to stay, and recovery
The hospital keeps you one night, under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation. Its follow-up is 7 to 10 days after surgery, so plan your stay around that. Swelling and bruising settle over about two weeks, and the chest reaches its final shape over 6 to 12 months.
The clinic has you wear a compression garment around the clock for three days, then 12 hours a day until one month. It dresses the wound the next day and takes out the stitches at about day 7. Light work is possible after one to two days; avoid raising your arms high, carrying heavy loads and hard exercise in the first weeks.
Risks
The hospital lists bleeding, infection, slow healing, numbness or changed feeling in the nipple, uneven sides, a dip under the nipple if too much is removed, loose skin after a large reduction, poor scarring and the need for revision. The clinic says some gland is left behind on purpose so the nipple does not sink, and that the result can change if you gain a lot of weight, start steroids or have a hormone condition.
Check the surgeon
Only a doctor registered and licensed by the Medical Council of Thailand may practise medicine (Medical Profession Act 1982, section 26). You can check a doctor on the Medical Council's website by searching their first name and surname, in Thai or in English. It lists only licensed doctors. If you find nothing, the Council answers on 02-590-1887.
No one may present themselves as skilled in a field of medicine unless they hold the Medical Council's certificate for it, or one the Council recognises, or meet criteria set in the Council's regulations (section 28). Ask which certificate your surgeon holds, and check the name you are given.
What to ask before you pay
- Is my chest gland, fat or both, and how will you check?
- Will you remove the gland as well as do liposuction?
- Local or general anaesthesia, and is the anaesthetist included?
- Is the removed tissue sent to a lab?
- When are the stitches out, and when can I fly?
- What does a revision cost if I need one?
- What is the surgeon's full name, and which Medical Council certificate do they hold?
