What a check-up and clean costs in Bangkok
On 2 November 2026 we read the prices that nine Bangkok dental clinics and one private hospital publish on their own websites:
| What you are buying | Published prices |
|---|---|
| Examination and consultation | Free at one clinic, 400 to 2,000 baht at others; most lists do not price it separately. 350 to 850 baht at the hospital. |
| Scaling and polishing | 800 to 3,000 baht; 1,800 to 2,700 baht at the hospital. |
| Airflow stain removal, for coffee, tea or smoking stains | 800 to 2,500 baht; 3,800 to 5,000 baht with scaling at the hospital. |
| A small X-ray film | 150 to 300 baht a film. |
| A panoramic X-ray of the whole mouth | 500 to 1,400 baht. |
| Fluoride | 500 to 800 baht. |
One clinic's price for a check-up and clean includes the examination, with X-rays at 200 to 800 baht if needed. The hospital's list is valid until 31 December 2026; the clinics' lists give no end date.
If the dentist finds something
The same clinics publish these prices for work a check-up can lead to:
| Treatment | Published prices |
|---|---|
| A tooth-coloured filling, one surface | 600 to 1,500 baht at most clinics; 2,000 to 6,300 baht, depending on size, at the hospital. |
| Deep cleaning of the roots (root planing), per quarter of the mouth | 1,500 to 5,000 baht. |
| Gum treatment for the whole mouth at the hospital | 8,400 to 16,800 baht. |
Larger fillings cost more, priced by the number of surfaces. Ask for a written plan with a price for each item before you agree to anything beyond the clean.
What may be charged on top
- a service and sterilisation fee: 300 to 400 baht a visit at one clinic, 90 baht a visit at another;
- X-rays, which some clinics take only if they are needed;
- local anaesthetic for a filling: 250 baht at one clinic.
Some clinics offer scaling with Airflow or fluoride as a combined price, which can cost less than paying for each.
How long it takes
A check-up and clean is one visit. One clinic gives about 30 minutes for scaling and polishing and about 45 minutes for the whole first visit, offers same-week appointments, and says it can be done on the day you arrive.
If the dentist finds work that needs a laboratory, such as a crown, the trip gets longer. Our guides to crowns, veneers and implants set out how long each takes.
Check the dentist
Only a dentist registered and licensed by the Dental Council of Thailand may practise dentistry (Dental Profession Act 1994, section 28). You can check a licence on the Dental Council's website by searching the dentist's first name and surname in Thai. If you find nothing, the Council answers on 02-580-7500 to 7503.
A dentist may only present themselves as skilled in a specialty if they hold the Dental Council's certificate for it, or one the Council recognises (section 30). Periodontics, the specialty for gum treatment, is one of the twelve the Council certifies. Under the Council's 2014 guideline on advertising, a dentist without the certificate may not call themselves a specialist.
Under the patients' rights the Dental Council publishes, you may ask the name of the dentist treating you, get enough information to decide, including the cost, and ask another dentist for a second opinion.
What to ask before you pay
- Is the examination included in the cleaning price?
- Will you take X-rays, and what do they cost?
- Is there a service or sterilisation fee?
- Is Airflow or fluoride included, or a combined price?
- If you find something, can I have a written plan with a price for each item?
- What is the dentist's full name in Thai?
