What an endoscopic brow lift does

The clinic describes an endoscopic brow lift as lifting drooping brows and outer eye corners, heavy upper eyelids and forehead lines. Through cuts of 1 to 2 cm in the hairline, the surgeon passes a small camera under the skin, lifts the tissue and fixes it higher, with stitches or with Endotine, a small device that dissolves over 6 to 12 months. The operation takes one to two hours, under sedation with local anaesthesia.

The clinic says the result lasts about five years with stitches and five to ten years with Endotine. Ask which one your surgeon plans, and whether it is in the price.

Recovery

The clinic advises cold compresses on the forehead and around the eyes for the first 48 hours, sleeping with your head raised on two or three pillows, and not touching the wounds. Keep them dry and out of the sun for one to two weeks, and avoid hard exercise for two to three weeks. Most people return to normal life in two to three weeks; the result settles fully over 6 to 12 months.

Before surgery, stop aspirin, vitamin E and fish oil at least two weeks ahead, and smoking and alcohol two to four weeks ahead.

Check the surgeon

Only a doctor registered and licensed by the Medical Council of Thailand may practise medicine (Medical Profession Act 1982, section 26). You can check a doctor on the Medical Council's website by searching their first name and surname, in Thai or in English. It lists only licensed doctors. If you find nothing, the Council answers on 02-590-1887.

No one may present themselves as skilled in a field of medicine unless they hold the Medical Council's certificate for it, or one the Council recognises, or meet criteria set in the Council's regulations (section 28). Ask which certificate your surgeon holds, and check the name you are given.

What to ask before you pay

  • Which kind of brow lift do I need, and where will the cuts be?
  • Will you fix it with stitches or Endotine, and is that included?
  • Sedation or general anaesthesia, and is the anaesthetist included?
  • When are the stitches checked, and when can I fly?
  • What is the surgeon's full name, and which Medical Council certificate do they hold?
